A couple from Texas was arrested Tuesday night in Dana Point after fleeing from state park rangers and firing at least one gunshot, authorities said.
Rene Joseph Bolduc, 41, and Teresa Nanette Kirkland, 46, were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and obstruction and delay of a peace officer, said Lt. Jeff Hallock of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
California State Park Rangers approached the couple shortly before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday on Dana Point Harbor Drive near Doheny State Beach and the couple fled in their vehicle, firing at least one shot during the chase.
Rangers called the Orange County Sheriff’s Department for backup following the gunshot.
The vehicle Bolduc and Kirkland were in crashed and rolled at Doheny State Park during the pursuit and the two suspects exited the vehicle on foot, attempting to hide from officers.
OCSD deputies found Bolduc in the water near the jetty and Kirkland hiding among a collection of lifeguard towers grouped together for the off-season on the beach, Hallock said.
According to the OCSD Sheriff’s Blotter entry, several rounds of ammunition were found inside the couple’s vehicle.
Bolduc and Kirkland were arrested, transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and booked into Orange County Jail.
It is unclear whether the suspects fired the gun at officers and their motive behind attempting to run. An investigation is ongoing.
