The Dana Point Chamber of Commerce has continued to award prizes to local shoppers over the summer as part of their ongoing Shop Del Prado incentive program and announced the winners for June and July.
The program is part of a joint effort—started in January—by the city and the chamber to help support businesses on Del Prado Avenue during Town Center-Lantern District construction by rewarding customers for shopping, dining and purchasing services in the area.
Shoppers may enter the monthly drawing by submitting receipts from the purchase of products and services from Del Prado Avenue businesses. For every $10 spent, entrants receive one raffle ticket. Prize packages—donated by local businesses—include an overnight stay at a Dana Point hotel, meals for two and a free recreational activity.
The prize winners for June were Bob and Linda Theel who won with a receipt from a carpet purchase at Lantern Bay Interiors & Flooring. The Theel’s received a night at the Ritz-Carlton, breakfast or lunch for two at Proud Mary’s and Jet Ski rental for two from Dana Point Jet Ski.
For July, the winner was Dean Tucker with a receipt from one of his favorite restaurants, The Shwack Beach Grill.
“We have to support our local community and businesses to keep this beautiful town thriving,” Tucker said, adding that he is happy to do his share, sometimes visiting Shwack twice a day.
Tucker was awarded a night’s stay at the Blue Lantern Inn, lunch for two at The Coffee Importers and a two-hour fishing package from Dana Wharf Sportfishing.
“I think it’s a great program,” said Shwack Beach Grill owner Max Fisher. “I’d like to see it keep going and I’m glad someone finally won with a receipt from Shwack. I’m stoked. And Dean wasn’t kidding about eating here twice a day.” (laughs)
Receipts submitted for the June drawing totaled $9,306, and for July the total was $4,566.
“What’s unique about the Shop Del Prado program is that the winners have represented very diverse shopping experiences by supporting many types of businesses,” said Heather Johnston, Chamber of Commerce executive director. “We had someone win with a receipt for new carpet followed by a winner who bought a sandwich. This has been a great experience and we really hope it helped the businesses on Del Prado. We are also very thankful to all the Dana Point businesses—from all over town—who have donated prizes.”
Receipts can be taken to the Chamber of Commerce office at 34163 Pacific Coast Highway, Suite 100, or via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Emailed entries must include a copy or photo of the receipt along with the shopper’s name, phone number, email address and home zip code. The contest is set to run through October.
