Sheriff’s Blotter: Drones Spur on Police Calls

All information below is obtained from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department website. The calls represent what was told to the deputy in the field by the radio dispatcher. The true nature of an incident often differs from what is initially reported. No assumption of criminal guilt or affiliation should be drawn from the content of the information provided. An arrest doesn’t represent guilt. The items below are just a sampling of the entries listed on the OCSD website.

Saturday, October 8

SHOTS HEARD-NO SUSPECT INFORMATION Bluehill Bay, 23800 Block (11:52 p.m.) A caller told police there were numerous shots fired behind the hotel.

DISTURBANCE La Serena Drive, 34100 Block (9:14 p.m.) Police were called for “loud” skateboarders.

DRUNK DRIVING Pacific Coast Highway/Del Prado (8:31 p.m.) Police were called for a man who was seen stumbling to his vehicle.

TRAFFIC ACCIDENT Pacific Coast Highway/Dana Point Harbor Drive (8:15 p.m.) A man told police a person with a boat and trailer ran into him.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON/CIRCUMSTANCE Via California, 26300 Block (7:04 p.m.) A caller told police one or two people in hoodies looked like they were stealing wood and items from a construction site next door.

ASSIST OUTSIDE AGENCY Pacific Coast Highway/Crown Valley Parkway (6:54 p.m.) Animal Control was called after a man was seen yelling, squeezing and beating a small dog.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON/CIRCUMSTANCE Meridian Drive, 24700 Block (6:36 p.m.) A woman told police she believed someone went into her house. She said the dash lights in her car were on, but it was parked in the garage and no doors were found open.

RECKLESS DRIVING Dana Strand Road, 34300 Block (5:06 p.m.) Police were called for five vehicles in the parking lot.

ASSIST OUTSIDE AGENCY Del Prado/Street of the Golden Lantern (4:53 p.m.) Police were called for a dog locked inside of a white Tesla with no windows cracked.

Friday, October 7

SHOTS HEARD-NO SUSPECT INFORMATION El Camino Capistrano, 24700 Block (11:20 p.m.) A woman told police she heard loud gunshots and saw a flash of light but could not tell if it was a gunshot or fireworks.

DRUNK DRIVING Doheny Park Road/Domingo Avenue (5:11 p.m.) An arrest was made after police were called for a driver seen driving very slowly on the freeway, and randomly braking and hitting curbs.

TRAFFIC ACCIDENT-NON INJURY Pacific Coast Highway/Crown Valley Parkway (6:41 a.m.) A gray Ford and a white Ford were involved in an accident.

Thursday, October 6

SUSPICIOUS PERSON/CIRCUMSTANCE Street of the Amber Lantern, 34100 Block (11:46 p.m.) A woman told police she saw a shadow of two arms out of her second-story bathroom window. The woman’s husband saw a ladder leaning up against the side of the house.

DISTURBANCE- MUSIC OR PARTY Crown Valley Parkway, 32400 Block (11:06 p.m.) Police were called for people playing a “loud game” of beer pong.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON/CIRCUMSTANCE Danaoak, 32900 Block (9:50 p.m.) A woman told police that her vehicle, which was stolen, was back in front of her house but that she was afraid for her safety.

DISTURBANCE Del Prado/Street of the Violet Lantern (5:53 p.m.) Police were called for a man urinating into a dryer.

RECKLESS DRIVING Street of the Golden Lantern, 33300 Block (5:48 p.m.) Police were called for a driver in a BMW doing donuts.

TRAFFIC ACCIDENT Via California/Via Gomez (2:58 p.m.) A driver struck a mailbox.

VANDALISM REPORT Street of the Golden Lantern, 32500 Block (10:59 a.m.) Police were called after someone attempted to get into the business, possibly with a crowbar.

TRAFFIC HAZARD Street of the Golden Lantern/Pacific Coast Highway (9:30 a.m.) A dog was running through the intersection.

Wednesday, October 5

HIT-AND-RUN PARKED CAR Del Prado, 24800 Block (6:53 p.m.) A gray Volkswagen Jetta was struck.

DISTURBANCE Dana Strand Drive, 34300 Block (6:08 p.m.) Police were called for multiple drones in the park. A woman told police she was upset because it was “invading her privacy.”

RECKLESS DRIVING Camino Las Ramblas/Freeway 1 (4:45 p.m.) Police were called for motorcycles racing back and forth.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON/CIRCUMSTANCE Caribbean Way/Antilles Way (12:07 p.m.) Police were called for an alarm going off for 10 minutes.

TRAFFIC ACCIDENT-NON INJURY Monarch Beach Resort, 0 Block (9:50 a.m.) Police were called for a woman driving a Honda who struck another vehicle, then attempted to leave.

Tuesday, October 4

SUSPICIOUS PERSON/CIRCUMSTANCE Del Obispo Street, 33500 Block (4:35 p.m.) A woman told police two men drove up to her and asked her to get into their vehicle. She told police she didn’t know them.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON/CIRCUMSTANCE Dana Point Drive, 24800 Block (10:54 p.m.) Police were called for a woman climbing onto balconies and trying to sneak into rooms.

DISTURBANCE Dana Point Drive, 24800 Block (9:10 p.m.) A man told police he got into a verbal altercation with a neighbor who was flying a drone. He said he felt it was “invading his privacy.”

RECKLESS DRIVING Santa Clara Avenue, 24400 Block (6:49 p.m.) A resident told police his neighbor drives his Maserati at 100 mph on the street.

TRAFFIC HAZARD Stonehill Drive/ Street of the Blue Lantern (5:29 p.m.) A sign was down in the middle of the road.

STOLEN VEHICLE Via Verde, 34500 Block (11:42 a.m.) A black Jeep Liberty was reported stolen.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON/CIRCUMSTANCE Via Canon, 26300 Block (11:20 a.m.) A caller told police an unknown juvenile came into their home and started playing with their cats.

TRAFFIC ACCIDENT Del Obispo Street/Stonehill Drive (10:28 a.m.) A driver in a vehicle struck a wall in front of Albertsons.

TRAFFIC HAZARD Pacific Coast Highway/Camino Capistrano (3:37 a.m.) Northbound lanes were closed for a rock slide.

Monday, October 3

DISTURBANCE La Cresta Drive/Aurelio Drive (5:05 p.m.) An arrest was made after police were called about a girl being chased.

TRAFFIC ACCIDENT Del Prado/Pacific Coast Highway (3:08 p.m.) A driver in a Toyota hit something on a job site, left, then returned to speak with the workers.

DISTURBANCE Victoria Boulevard/Doheny Park Road (11:42 a.m.) Police were called for a woman shouting at people passing by.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON/CIRCUMSTANCE Stonehill Drive/Del Obispo Street (8:24 a.m.) Police were called for a driver who looked like they were trying to dump items.

TRAFFIC ACCIDENT-INJURIES Del Obispo Street/Stonehill Drive (7:30 a.m.) Drivers in a Chevy and a Mazda were involved in an accident. One driver complained of neck and head pain and said a two-year-old needed to be checked out.

PROWLER Costa Del Sol, 0 Block (1:32 a.m.) A caller told police a man was seen in the backyard and running toward the front yard, but it was too dark to get a description.

PROWLER Bridgeport Street, 0 Block (12:26 a.m.) A caller told police people were walking in a field behind the location and pointing flashlights into windows.
