Due in part to utility coordination issues, it now appears infrastructure work, including the opening of a trail system at the Sea Summit residential development at Marblehead—at the Capistrano Beach/Dana Point border—as well as the opening of West Avenida Vista Hermosa, is now scheduled for March after earlier projections had put the opening at the end of February.

San Clemente Assistant City Engineer Tom Bonigut said the improvements are moving along well and were nearing completion but coordination with outside utilities has somewhat delayed the process.

Bonigut said that assuming the weather is cooperative, the March date appears to be reasonable for completion.

The city hopes to have the road opened up by the time the Avenida Pico overpass bridge is dismantled as part of the Interstate 5 widening and construction of a new interchange, to allow for an additional east-west route through the city.

Taylor Morrison, the developer of the 300-plus homes in the project, is slated to begin construction on model homes this month.
