Big ups to all the groms who paddled out at the Western Surfing Association event in Oceanside last weekend. With the surf pumping, it was one of the most challenging events of the season thus far, and rising to the top was San Clemente’s Happy Sager, who won the highly competitive Under 14 Girls division.

The final was a San Clemente affair, as four of the six surfers were all from town, including Lola Fleming, who finished in second place and won the Under 18 division. Isla Pinto landed in fourth, and Harper Olenik finished in fifth.

For Happy, the win is proof-positive that hard work and dedication pay off. This is her third WSA win this season. Last year, she won one event, so with all the hard work and water time, the results are certainly coming.

A member of the state champion Shorecliffs Middle School surf team, Happy has a lot to be happy about these days. Enjoying the support of surf wear brand Roark, Nixon and Edit Surfboards, she also recently joined the team at Jack’s Surfboards.

With spring here and summer not too far away, it’s going to be amazing to see what Happy does next as the water warms up and the south swells start rolling in.
