Chase those dreams, put the hard work in, and good things can happen. After living overseas for five years, Brendan Lyons moved back to the United States in 2021. A seventh-grader at the time, he got right back in the water immediately. Logging massive amounts of water time at T-Street, the San Clemente Pier and Salt Creek, through high tides and low tides, offshore and onshore winds, Brendan committed himself.

Today, a 15-year-old freshman at St. Margaret’s in San Juan Capistrano, Brendan just took first in the Scholastic Surfing Association’s Orange County High School division contest held in blustery conditions at the San Clemente Pier. His results among the WSA ranks have also been steadily on the rise. Working with Christian Saenz of Orange County Surf Coaching, the dedication is paying off.

Getting some travel experience under his belt, Brendan sojourned in Nicaragua last summer for some warm-water sessions, and this winter he got his first taste of the North Shore in Hawaii, scoring his first barrel at Pipeline.

When not in the water, you may find Brendan hammering out beats on his drum kit or rolling around down on his skateboard.
