More than 120,000 South Orange County customers of San Diego Gas & Electric, including those in San Clemente, Dana Point and San Juan Capistrano, lost power late Thursday night.
A spokesperson for the utility indicated that the outage occurred at 11:42 p.m. and was universal throughout its south Orange County customers. The spokesperson said 99 percent of customers had their power restored by 2:45 a.m. Friday, with the remaining customers restored at approximately 10 a.m. Friday morning.
The utility indicated the incident started when two transmission lines tripped offline simultaneously near Camp Pendleton. According to a release, the utility believed the equipment failure was related to a number of factors.
