I attended the meeting on November 5 produced by the city for the Doheny Village area of Capistrano Beach. I thought the turn-out was good.
Unfortunately—or is it fortunately—I sat next to a man who had in his possession a very large booklet, about one inch thick. It was professionally produced with lots of drawings and pictures and ideas for the village area. The title as I recall was, Improvement Plan for the Village of Capistrano Beach. The date of this document was 1988. I am sure the city has some extra copies laying around and may want to consider not expending monies for another “glossy” that will be referred to in another 23 years. I calculate that to be the year 2035—a date that both the mayor and I agreed would not be of any interest to either of us.
It appears that the city may be on a 20-year or more cycle to revisit the same old issues that have done nothing but steadily deteriorated.
The rotten wood fencing on both Camino Capistrano and Doheny Park Road, the trash, the weeds, the market carts, unending asphalt and dirt, the abandoned sofas etc., the stream of day workers and the gravel parking lot for a business on a major street all continue. These issues do not need another “glossy study” or “community workshop busy work project” that ends in more of the same neglect and indifference.
The village needs basic attention not the continuing neglect that prevails without end. Even Costco put in landscaping in their parking lot before starting to build their new structure. It continues to baffle me as to why basic issues of health, safety and esthetics for the village must be continually brought to the city’s attention.
