Chris Jones, Dana Point
Regarding short-term rentals in Dana Point, let’s stick with reality. Dana Point residents have been living in a “Living Lab” for the last three and a half years. The model ordinance works. The rules and regulations work. The system works. The (Transient Occupancy Tax) works. Homeowners that rent their homes out are far and few between. These homeowners take the renter vetting process very seriously. Neighbors have phone numbers and can call 24/7. Code Enforcement Officer Ted Harris rarely gets called with issues but is ready, willing and able to enforce with sanctions. The proof has been in the pudding from day one. The system has actually been working for over 50 years. It’s been successfully regulated for the last few years.
