Kelli Scoggin, Dana Point

As a Dana Point homeowner and landlord to both short- and long-term tenants, I must urge you to support short-term rentals and recognize the immense benefits they bring to Dana Point. Dana Point businesses desperately need more foot traffic and the tourists who will spend money in the shops and restaurants. We pale in comparison to our neighboring cities of Laguna Beach and San Clemente in boosting tourism and encouraging growth and change in our community. Short-term tenants sign contracts that are much stricter than long-term leases regarding use of property and that outline very specific rules.

In my experience as a landlord and resident of Dana Point, long-term leased tenants have posed a much greater nuisance. We would be doing Dana Point a great disservice by prohibiting vacation rentals.
