Two nights of closures of Interstate 5 at Ortega Highway in San Juan Capistrano have been cancelled due to weather concerns, the California Department of Transportation announced Thursday.
The closures will be rescheduled to Friday, December 13 and Saturday, December 14, between 11:59 p.m. and 6 a.m. Both northbound and southbound I-5 will be closed to allow Caltrans construction crews to complete grading work on the Ortega Highway bridge.
During the closures, all on- and off-ramps at Ortega Highway will serve as detour routes for freeway traffic and will not be accessible to regular city traffic. Also, Ortega Highway, between Del Obispo Street and Rancho Viejo Road, will be closed.
Caltrans had initially scheduled the closures to take place Friday, December 6 and Saturday, December 7.
The closures are necessary for Caltrans construction crews to complete grading work on the Ortega Highway bridge, as part of the $86.2 million I-5/Ortega Highway interchange project.
For the full schedule of nightly closures and planned detours, or for more information on the project, visit the Caltrans District 12 information office website at www.ortega.dot.ca.gov.
