The Dana Hills softball team couldn’t quite play out their Cinderella story on May 23 as they were shut out by Chino’s Miranda Viramontes in a 10-0 loss in the CIF-SS Division 2 quarterfinals.
The Dolphins entered the playoffs as an at-large team out of the South Coast League, and had to win a wild card game just to earn a spot in the bracket.
After defeating Long Beach Poly 6-4 in the wild card game, the Dolphins pulled out wins over Mayfair and South Hills, respectively, to reach the quarterfinals.
It seemed like everything was going the Dolphins’ way, until Chino’s Viramontes threw a complete game one-hitter against them, ending their season.
Senior Chase Masciorini won his first two matches in the first round of the CIF-SS Individual Tennis Championships on May 23. Masciorini will now move on to the round of 16, which will be held in Whittier on May 30.
