Doheny Clothing Exchange

34276 Doheny Park Rd, Capistrano Beach

949.240.4800

Inside the Doheny Clothing Exchange, shoppers can find shirts, jeans, shoes, hats, a variety of accessories and more. The styles range from today’s popular trends to vintage, and the Doheny Park Road clothing store tries to carry something for everyone.

The shop opened its doors for the first time six years ago, something that owner Pamela Vandergrift said was a gut feeling.

“I just knew the area demanded something like that,” Vandergrift said.

Vandergrift opened and owns the store with her daughter Caia Curiale, and said it was just always something she wanted to do with her daughter.

The store is unique, Vandergrift said, because they cater to the city’s demographic and the area’s residents’ style.

“We’ve evolved in ways,” Vandergrift said. “Half the battle is knowing what to buy.”

Hanging up along the walls are boho-styled dresses and shirts, which Vandergrift said is very popular right now.

“We have a lot of kimonos, and you definitely see these clothing items in this area,” Vandergrift said. “It’s a lot of beachy casual, free-spirited, that’s what we cater to.”

Vandergrift said the original plan for the space was not what it is today.

“I was trying to set up my nephew in the space for a business in molding and lumber,” Vandergrift said. “But, I’m glad it didn’t go in that direction.”

Since then, Vandergrift said she’s looked at opening a second location, but hasn’t had the right “feeling.”
