Vol. 1, Issue 2, February 15-21, 2008

THE LATEST: Dana Point City Attorney Patrick Muñoz drew the ire of residents of Santa Ana’s Logan neighborhood—the city’s oldest neighborhood—February 5 when he described it as an area with “crummy little houses” at a meeting at City Hall. Muñoz was at the meeting as part of the Rutan & Tucker firm that represents Judy Ware, owner of Ware Disposal Inc., the trash hauler for Santa Ana. When confronted after the meeting about his statement, he allegedly responded by saying “f— you” and giving them the middle finger. The Dana Point Times contacted Muñoz, who stated he does not have any comments on the issue at this time. “The city attorney has expressed to me that he regrets anything that was perceived as inappropriate,” said Dana Point Mayor Joel Bishop. “As far as [Muñoz’] work in Dana Point, I am quite satisfied with his job and the company he works for.”

WHAT’S NEXT: According to city of Santa Ana Planning Commissioner Sean Mill, he and a number of Santa Ana residents will attend this Tuesday’s City Council meeting and ask for Munoz’s resignation as the city attorney. “I anticipate some people will come to express their opinions. I will take those opinions under advisement,” said Bishop.
