THE LATEST: A brand-new performing arts center at Dana Hills High School took a large step to becoming a reality on April 21 when the Capo Unified school board voted to accept $3 million from a state grant to help pay for the proposed $13 million project. The district must now identify an additional $10 million in funding, an effort that will likely require fund-raising to supplement existing developer fees and Measure A monies.
Fortunately, district CEO Sherry Hahn told the school board they do have options. Dana Hills can draw on developer fees and Measure A funds to help pay for the $10 million shortfall, and the state is granting loans to help district pay for the projects.
The district has also been sent a letter by the South Orange County School of the Arts promising help with fund-raising and asking to provide input on project planning.
WHAT’S NEXT: Hahn said that the district board will consider different funding sources at an upcoming meeting.
