A man was pulled out of the ocean by an unknown bystander after a near-drowning incident at Salt Creek Beach this morning, according to Orange County Fire Authority officials.

Around 10:45 on Friday, July 21, an elderly man was reportedly swimming in the ocean when his son notified lifeguards he was having trouble.

OCFA Public Information Officer Capt. Alan Wikes said the son didn’t specify what the problems were.

An unknown bystander pulled the man out of the water and he was treated for near-drowning before being transported to a local hospital.

OC Lifeguards Capt. Brad Herzog said during the time of the incident there were shore-break conditions.

He said the man looked like he hit his head and was dragged in.

Herzog said the waves were significantly larger on Thursday, and they are starting to recede.
