Dana Point based mixed martial arts flyweight Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall is set to fight Joseph Benavidez on February 2 at 7 p.m. as part of UFC 156.
The match will be the first bout of the pay-per-view event, which features featherweight champ Jose Aldo fighting against Frankie Edgar in the main event. Another match worth watching will be light-heavyweight Rashad Evans taking on Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.
McCall and Benavidez are both a part of the recently created flyweight division, which features the lightest fighters the UFC has to offer. McCall and Benavidez are both set to weigh in at 125 pounds.
When the new weight division was instated, McCall was thrilled at the prospects of performing on big stages, such as a pay-per-view event.
“The Flyweight division is kind of the final frontier for weight classes. I don’t think anyone wants to see anyone smaller than me fight. I already fight at a weight class that’s lower than what most women weigh,” McCall told the Dana Point Times back in July. “But we don’t ever get tired. Even when we do get tired, we still have more energy than everybody else.”
