HARRY TOUART, San Clemente

I stumbled upon a highly organized protest gathering at the Outlets at San Clemente on Jan. 20. While grabbing a coffee at Starbucks around 8 a.m., I noticed close to 200 people gathering under the parking structure. Most were carrying antigovernment slogans, such as slurs toward President Donald Trump, #Resist and #BlackLivesMatter signs. Several people were wearing those ridiculous looking protest beanies with the two knots on top.

I stopped by to ask the security guard what was up. He told me an organization had rented out the parking structure to bus everyone to an antigovernment protest. This was obviously a very clandestine place to set up and well planned, out of the public eye, hidden inside the parking structure. There were four large buses inside the structure that were loaded with people to ship to a protest. Some political organization spent a large sum of money to set this up.

If the owners of the Outlets of San Clemente are supporting this antigovernment movement then I will never spend another dime there and will boycott the Outlets, which already has a sore spot with much of the local population, and now they are offering support to disrupt our republic. What is it about these people that want to see our nation fail?

  • So you’re against the 1st amendment?

    • Leftists suffering from President Trump Stress Disorder

      @ Jay Lukes

Your question, “So you’re against the 1st amendment?”

Where in Harry Touart’s letter does he suggest he is against the 1st Amendment? Does not Mr. Touart have the freedom to boycott any business he chooses? Where did he suggest any person or persons could not exercise their 1st Amendment rights? And if the Outlets decided not to rent parking for buses to anti-government or anti-Trump protests, that also would not be a violation of anyone’s 1st Amendment rights.

  • Sounds really suspicious, Harry. Maybe George Soros was funding it and how shameful they would have signs critical of the very stable genius. Maybe they were headed to the Women’s March?

  • Harry, you sound like you may be a fan of the 2nd Amendment, Amiright? It might surprise you to learn that the most important phrase does not contain the word, “arms”. The key words in the 2nd Amendment are, “well regulated”, which at the time they were. written meant, WELL ORGANiZED”. Do you really think that your pop-gun AR-15 is going to protect you from the technology of the most powerful government in the history of the world? Hardly. So, in order to assist in protecting our beloved country from all enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC, we are becoming WELL ORGANIZED just as the framers of our Constitution demanded. If they were alive today, John and Abigail Adams would be driving those buses.

So, slowly move away from the TV, Harry. If it is telling you that Obama’s shadow army is stalking you (and by Obama, I mean, Michelle), guess what? The TV is right. Why not join the home team, and go with us sometime?

    • Leftist hate is dividing this nation

      @ Douglas Martin

Your statement, “The key words in the 2nd Amendment are, “well regulated”…”

According to who? Here is the full text:

“A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

The whole amendment is important and can’t be truncated, but if any phrase is key, it is the phrase that instructs the reader on what the Federal Government may not do, ie., “the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” Thus, your twisting of the amendment to simply refer to getting organized is a gross mischaracterization. The purpose was to insure the Federal Government could not legally prevent citizens from arming themselves with any and every available weapon.

Your claim, “If they were alive today, John and Abigail Adams would be driving those buses.”

Yeah, I can just see this frequent church going couple rushing off to carry signs and posters with women’s private parts drawn on them or ones blaming white women for voting for a particular candidate, or holding signs laced with profanity; isn’t that what every Founding Father and his wife did for fun?

      • Hi Dave. I agree it was a bit of a stretch, but “well regulated” as used in 1791 did refer to the degree of organization and cooperation of groups of people, rather than restrictions and rules placed on groups. I will stand by the context of my comment: Individual gun ownership is no match for the technology of the most powerful government in the world. The only way to fight the current perversion of the Executive Branch of our government is to be more organized, more patriotic, more tenacious than the 3rd generation Birchers in our Legislature, and the truly insane evangelicals – led by Pence – who are giddy with anticipation of a nuclear conflagration.
As far as John and Abigail Adams goes, they would be horrified to see what has become of their vision. Adams abhorred slavery, while Washington and Jefferson both owned people, and we know what Jefferson did to the people under his control. Washington was losing badly and if Adams had not gone to Europe to secure funding from the Dutch (while Jefferson was constantly hitting on his wife back home), we would still be speaking the King’s English.
American Democracy is the greatest form of government the world has ever seen, but it is facing very real threats, both foreign and domestic right now. I would say, “God bless America” but gods don’t exist; It’s up to us. When is the next citizen march?

        • The 2nd Amendment protects the rights of the people against government prohibition or confiscation of the peoples’ fire arms.

          @ Douglas Martin, respectfully,

Your statement, “…but “well regulated” as used in 1791 did refer to the degree of organization and cooperation of groups of people…”

I’m afraid I must respectfully disagree. This 2nd Amendment language had been common since at least the mid 1600’s in America. It always referred to the people owning fire arms and training in their proper use for the defense of the people. While one could accurately say “well regulated” meant “well organized” in the sense that the fire arms owning populace be organized for defensive, ie., tactics, it cannot be used in the sense of “a protest”, “march”, or not to be too harsh, “a sewing circle”.

Your statement, “…Individual gun ownership is no match for the technology of the most powerful government in the world.”

It certainly proved to be so in 1775-1781 right here in America as the common folk with little or no military training, defeated the most powerful country/military in the world at the time. Likewise, tiny, backward Vietnam defeated “the most powerful government in the world” allied with its own southern neighbor.
Today, the Taliban in Afghanistan has fought American forces to a standstill and done so with no jets, helicopters, tanks, or ships. Should the US government go further than Obama, who used the IRS to target his political enemies and apparently, the DOJ/FBI to spy on the opposition candidate’s campaign, and attempt to confiscate law abiding citizens’ fire arms or worse, the ten’s of millions of fire arms owners would be no end of trouble for those in our military actually willing to take up arms against their fellow citizens.

Your statement, “…3rd generation Birchers in our Legislature, and the truly insane evangelicals …”

Is “truly insane evangelicals” an anti-Christian statement? And if not, what makes them “truly insane”? And the John Birch Society, really? When was the last time they had any influence in public affairs?

Your statement, “…who are giddy with anticipation of a nuclear conflagration.”

Really? What is your evidence for that?

I’m not sure what your point is on slavery and the citing of GW and TJ as owning slaves. I’ve never heard the claim that TJ “was constantly hitting on” Abigail Adams and wonder what your source for that is. Also, it is NOT true that had John Adams failed to secure a loan from the Dutch, “we would still be speaking the King’s English.

I do agree that “American Democracy” is facing threats, but the greatest of these is from the progressive left. Having little regard for our constitution and the rule of law, leftists riot, vandalize, block highways, disparage our flag and National Anthem, and do all in their power to prevent law abiding citizens from exercising their rights of free speech.

          • Against my better judgement, I will answer your questions (it’s a slow work night).
            1. No, it was not an ‘anti-Christian’ statement. It was an ‘anti-truly insane evangelicals’ statement. How could a Christian truly support a president who is an admitted adulterer and has admitted paying for sex with prostitutes? He created a staff position in the White House for a former Sports Illustrated swimsuit model (Hope Hicks) and pays her (that is, the taxpayers pay her) a yearly salary of $179,700.00 – which is the same as his Chief of Staff is paid. She and Trump have stated that she actually types out his “tweets” as they are dictated to her. Many of those “tweets” have a time stamp of 0400-0430. What is she doing with Trump at 0400 while his wife is sound asleep in her own, separate bedroom in the White House?
            2. Jefferson hitting on Abigail Adams: Well documented, with photos of the dozens of letters Jefferson sent to Mrs. Adams, and her replies, which were polite requests to knock it off. There is no evidence that Adams – who poured his heart out in almost daily letters to Abigail – was ever aware of this. He and Jefferson died the same day, within hours of each other, with Adams still considering Jefferson to be his closest friend. I highly recommend the biography – John Adams, written by David McCullough, for which he won the 2002 Pulitzer Prize. I have read it cover to cover a dozen times. It literally brings tears to my eyes when I read the copies of the hand written letters that he and Abigail sent to each other. His vision, his passion, his tenacity are why we have enjoyed living in the greatest country on Earth, despite all the attacks on that vision. Washington got a giant phallus (even though he was losing badly, and was bailed out by the French with funding secured from the Dutch by Adams); Jefferson got his monument (even though he had no self discipline, raped his slaves, and died deeply in debt); and Adams got . . . nothing.
Evangelicals and nukes: Read anything by Sarah Palin. End of Days. Revelation. It’s why they support the deeply flawed Trump. Push the button, Donald, Push the button.
Birch: There are dozens of home schooled Christofacists currently serving in Congress or as congressional staff who watched their fathers or grandfathers say with their last, dying breath, “Destroy Obama”. The 1950s were a sad, sad time for out beloved Country. But they never gave up.
This has been interesting but it’s getting busy at work so gotta go.
            Warmest regards.
Oh, btw, I am about as Left as one can get – I’m a card carrying member of Obama’s shadow army. I’m a social liberal, fiscal conservative. I’ve never been arrested, never rioted, never vandalized anything, never blocked highways (except for medical/rescue stuff) , never disparaged our flag. And I don’t do everything I can to prevent law abiding citizens from exercising their rights of free speech. Holler all you want!

          • The Bircher movement was founded and funded by the Koch family.

            They are still attacking America.

  • Wow! So secretive they were meeting in a mall parking lot. Really “clandestine” and soooo “anti government….”

  • Simply a meeting place for chartered buses organized by Democratic Women of South Orange County. Riders paid $15 each to ride the buses to the Womens March on that day. Organized? Yes! Secretive and hiding in the parking lot? Hardly! Wow you stumbled upon a secret meeting spot of anti-government protesters that were doing something secret? Come on?!

  • The Jan. 20, 2018 event was the “Women’s March.”

Their goal is to salvage the nation from the Russian collaborators currently running the Federal government.

    • Obama, the worst president in American history

      @ Dr. GS Hurd

Your statement, “Their goal is to salvage the nation from the Russian collaborators currently running the Federal government.”

It appears the real colluders with Russia were the Hillary campaign and the Obama administration. Who let the Russians corner the market on Uranium by allowing the sale of 20% of OUR, the US’s uranium mining? That would be Obama and Hillary.

Who was paid $500K for a speech to a Russian bank with ties to Putin while his wife was Secretary of Defense and deciding on this Uranium deal? Bill Clinton.

Why did the Clinton Foundation receive many millions of dollars from ultimately, the Russians and again, during this Uranium deal?

Who paid a British agent to obtain information from the Russians on President Trump? Why, the Hillary campaign and the Democratic party.

Who used this transparently false dossier to obtain a FISA warrant to spy on the Trump campaign…during an election!? The Obama justice department and the FBI.

Who told Russian leader Dmitry Medvedev that he would have more flexibility to negotiate after the election? Obama.

Who gave Iran, our mortal enemy responsible for many American deaths, billions of dollars and attempted to do so clandestinely at night? Obama again.

Who traded 5 top Taliban terrorists for an American deserter? Who else? Obama.

Who pardoned, after only six years, a traitor responsible for one of the worst breeches of security in American history (Chelsea Manning)? Obama yet again.

BTW, how did that Hillary Russian reset go?

      • Oh my. What a delicate far-right rosebud crushed by reality.

Just today a panel of historians who specialize in presidential history put Lincoln at #1, and El Trumpo at #45th. I personally think that Andrew Jackson is the worst, but El Cheeto has at least 1 more year to sink the nation.

Your paranoid ignorance is typified by the false claim, “Who let the Russians corner the market on Uranium by allowing the sale of 20% of OUR, the US’s uranium mining? That would be Obama and Hillary.”

There was a South African company bought out by a Canadian company that bought out an American company. The Canadian company was then bought out by a Russian company (Rosatom) in 2010. The American company was Uranium One. They were one of 11 American companies that directly mine hard rock uranium. Their holdings are not even 20% of US uranium resources.

Nine different federal agencies had to sign off on the deal.

Hillary Clinton had nothing to do with the review.

Not one single gram, or grain of uranium produced by Uranium One ever leaves the United States.

        • Leftist hate is dividing the nation

          @ Dr. GS Hurd

Your statement, “…El Trumpo at #45th. I personally think that Andrew Jackson is the worst, but El Cheeto has at least 1 more year to sink the nation.”

The below is the website for this presidential survey/ranking. The unbiased will notice that Trump, being in office less than a year when this ranking was performed, is NOT on the list. Hence, Dr., you are either wrong or worse. Furthermore, the president you feel is the worst, Andrew Jackson, is rated #18 in this same survey and 6th of 31 presidents (best of the near-great presidents) in William DeGregorio’s presidential tome, The Complete Book of U.S. Presidents (from GW to GW Bush). In addition, in the Teaching Company’s huge course on “Great Presidents”, Andrew Jackson is one of 12 presidents covered, again, in a course entitled, “Great Presidents”.

        • Political correctness is a cancer undermining America

          @ Dr. GS Hurd

Regarding Hillary and Obama’s malfeasance in allowing Putin to control so much Uranium we find this from one news site:

“The headline on the website Pravda trumpeted President Vladimir V. Putin’s latest coup…’Russian Nuclear Energy Conquers the World’.” It continues:

“The article, in January 2013, detailed how the Russian atomic energy agency, Rosatom, had taken over a Canadian company with uranium-mining stakes stretching from Central Asia to the American West. The deal made Rosatom one of the world’s largest uranium producers and brought Mr. Putin closer to his goal of controlling much of the global uranium supply chain.”

“At the heart of the tale are several men, leaders of the Canadian mining industry, who have been major donors to the charitable endeavors of former President Bill Clinton and his family.”

“Beyond mines in Kazakhstan that are among the most lucrative in the world, the sale gave the Russians control of one-fifth of all uranium production capacity in the United States. Since uranium is considered a strategic asset, with implications for national security, the deal had to be approved by a committee composed of representatives from a number of United States government agencies. Among the agencies that eventually signed off was the State Department, then headed by Mr. Clinton’s wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton.”

The article goes on to describe how Canadian records show a flow of cash going to the Clinton Foundation from people with ties to the Canadian Uranium company as well as from the company’s chairman who personally donated $2.35 million.

          The article continues:

“And shortly after the Russians announced their intention to acquire a majority stake in Uranium One, Mr. Clinton received $500,000 for a Moscow speech from a Russian investment bank with links to the Kremlin that was promoting Uranium One stock.”

“But the episode underscores the special ethical challenges presented by the Clinton Foundation, headed by a former president who relied heavily on foreign cash to accumulate $250 million in assets even as his wife helped steer American foreign policy as secretary of state, presiding over decisions with the potential to benefit the foundation’s donors.”

“The Obama administration was seeking to “reset” strained relations with Russia. The deal was strategically important to Mr. Putin, who shortly after the Americans gave their blessing sat down for a staged interview with Rosatom’s chief executive, Sergei Kiriyenko. “Few could have imagined in the past that we would own 20 percent of U.S. reserves,” Mr. Kiriyenko told Mr. Putin.”

“Still, the ultimate authority to approve or reject the Russian acquisition rested with the cabinet officials on the foreign investment committee, including Mrs. Clinton — whose husband was collecting millions in donations from people associated with Uranium One.”

“But a review of tax records in Canada, where Mr. Telfer has a family charity called the Fernwood Foundation, shows that he donated millions of dollars more, during and after the critical time when the foreign investment committee was reviewing his deal with the Russians. With the Russians offering a special dividend, shareholders like Mr. Telfer stood to profit.”

“Mr. Christensen, 65, noted that despite assurances by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that uranium could not leave the country without Uranium One or ARMZ obtaining an export license — which they do not have — yellowcake from his property was routinely packed into drums and trucked off to a processing plant in Canada.

Asked about that, the commission confirmed that Uranium One has, in fact, shipped yellowcake to Canada even though it does not have an export license.”

“The “no export” assurance given at the time of the Rosatom deal is not the only one that turned out to be less than it seemed. Despite pledges to the contrary, Uranium One was delisted from the Toronto Stock Exchange and taken private. As of 2013, Rosatom’s subsidiary, ARMZ, owned 100 percent of it.”

I have quoted extensively from this article to demonstrate the accuracy of my statements and how hollow yours are.

Your statements, “Nine different federal agencies had to sign off on the deal. AND

Hillary Clinton had nothing to do with the review.

I find it illustrative that the state department, of which Hillary was the head, signed off on this deal while the Clinton Foundation was being bank rolled by foreign Uranium interests and Bill Clinton was being paid $500K for a speech to a Russian bank with ties to Putin, that YOU find nothing suspicious about the deal. As to the other agencies, one of those was that of the Attorney General headed by Eric, law breaker Holder, the only cabinet member in American history ever censured by congress.

Your claim, “Not one single gram, or grain of uranium produced by Uranium One ever leaves the United States.”

As the NRC has confirmed, we know your statement here is false.

      • You poor man, Harry. It must be terrible to be so wrong.

Actually I take that back. It is terrible to see our nation destroyed by ignorant paranoids.

You freaked out over a speech fee?

Try St. Ronny Reagan. He cleared $2 million for just two speeches in Japan

Or how about the 50 million bribe to El Cheeto himself when he flipped a mansion sale?
        http://www.newsweek.com/trump-sold-40-million-estate-russian-oligarch-100-million-and-democratic-802613

Trump Sold a $40 Million Estate to a Russian Oligarch for $100 Million!

We call that a bribe in the real world. Come visit.

      • “Who paid a British agent to obtain information from the Russians on President Trump? Why, the Hillary campaign and the Democratic party.”

The first clients were the Republicans afraid that Donald Trump could destroy America, and the Republican Party along with the nation.

But after the last Republican still loyal to America surrendered, the Democrats took over the contract.

      • Reichwing paranoid wrote, “Who gave Iran, our mortal enemy responsible for many American deaths, billions of dollars and attempted to do so clandestinely at night? Obama again.”

The Iranian government paid the USA $400,000,000 for weapons. They did not get them following the 1979 revolution. The Iranians did not get their $400 million back either. There was an international court finding that let the USA pay back just the 400 million plus less than market interest. (The Reagan+Bush sale of advanced weapon technology to Iran was ignored).

Why the Reichwing should be to stupid to breathe is the fact that the Democratic Obama administration paid in cash.

        CASH!

They had useless piles of paper. This was Iranian printed paper. The exchange rate on the paper was trash.

Are Republicans born stupid, or is it brain injury.

      • Reichwing goof wrote, “Who used this transparently false dossier to obtain a FISA warrant to spy on the Trump campaign…during an election!? The Obama justice department and the FBI.”

This particular Reichwing lie was exposed by the best thing Senator Dianne Feinstein ever did.

    • The left attacks not only the 2nd Amendment, but the 1st Amendment’s protection of Free Speech

      @ Dr. GS Hurd

Your claim, “The Bircher movement was founded and funded by the Koch family.”

      Here from wiki:

“The John Birch Society (JBS) is a self-described conservative advocacy group supporting anti-communism and limited government.[2][3][4] It has been described as a radical right and far-right organization.[5][6][7][8]

“Businessman and founder Robert W. Welch, Jr. (1899–1985) developed an organizational infrastructure in 1958 of chapters nationwide.”

Although Fred Koch was one of the founding members, it is disingenuous to describe him as THE FOUNDER.

BTW, how is the Koch family “attacking America”? Any comment on billionaire George Soros and his possible funding of the racist organizations ANTIFA and BLM, both of whom instigate riots and attacks on law enforcement? Do you agree with their tactics of shutting down free speech and promoting the murder of police officers (the latter in the case of BLM)?

Also, do you have a problem with anti-communism? Limited government?

  • Thank you GS for straightening this man out.
