Letter: No Two-Way Roads, Promote Walking and Biking

By Jill Richardson, Dana Point

I implore the decision makers to fully research the impact of increased traffic, time, connectivity and effectiveness before any plan is implemented for two-way roads on Del Prado Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway.

Changing the flow of traffic on these routes will increase traffic, add congestion and cause frustration.

We have fantastic weather; our community needs to create more outlets and an awareness of walking, biking and mass transportation as the “new” Town Center is being built. Please focus on this.

I implore the city to build 2 way streets with safe / convenient crosswalks and wide beatiful sidewalks ASAP!!! These comfortable slow car speed pedestrian environments are a MUST, for dana point to actually ever have a thriving center! Time to build is now

I do NOT agree with you because if we build two lane roads instead of “one lane” or “one way” is when the end of the town sister at blue lantern, how will the roads connect to PCH?!?! Having 2 lane roads instead of one way roads will cause a great frustration to bikers, cars and especially tourists. Tourists now in Dana Point sometimes get lost I have seen several people drive down the wrong way of PCH. I think they should also improve the bike lanes (I road bike in DP) because some people do NOT really understand what a bike lane is and how it should be used. I think having two way roads instead of a one way road would cause a lot of frustration to the residents and NEW tourists of Dana Point!

The center/business district of a city (or any city) should not be designed to assist moving motorists as fast as possible through a town. Thats what a highway (non business route)is designed to do.

The concept is to slow down all traffic, both cycling and cars, in order to create a more friendly walking environment friendly to local business owners.

Or dont you see the existing vacant lots?

    DanaPointer-

You completely miss the point. In order to promote walking and biking, and keeping in mind the ultimate goal of reducing frustration we need to actually increase the roads we have now. Not 3 lanes each way, no- we need 5 lanes each way with nice looking barriers just like we have on 1-5.

Why would you think slowing cars down and increasing sidewalks would be beneficial to the community and the local business area? We need to focus on the ability to move people and tourists as fast as possible between San Clemente (Del Mar Street) and then Laguna Beach. These people are staying in hotels and cannot be bothered with Dana Point traffic and congestion and most importantly local business.

DanaPointer, have you ever even tried to drive through town? Yes, I mean all the way! From Blue Lantern down to Del Obispo on del prado…. I know you have incurred the frustration of sitting and driving in traffic for 1 min 30 seconds. And now! And now! And now you want to make us drive through town for 3 minutes? 3 minutes

Please stop thinking of only yourself…………

Promote walking and biking next to the highway
