Dolphin Report: Girls Soccer, Girls Basketball in First Place

Wrestling
The Dolphins wrestling team dropped a league match to visiting Laguna Hills on January 8. Laguna Hills got out to a big early lead and held on to defeat the Dolphins 37-24.

The Dolphins will be at the Five Counties Tournament from January 19 to January 20.

Dolphins Girls Basketball Off to Perfect Start in League
In their last 10 games the Dana Hills girls basketball team has put together an impressive 9-1 record, which includes three straight Sea View League wins.

The first place Dolphins (11-8, 3-0 league) started off league play with a close, come from behind 44-42 win over Tesoro on January 10. The Dolphins trailed 22-14 at the half but exploded for 20 third quarter points, outscoring the Titans 20-10, which ultimately earned them the win.

Defense was the key for the Dolphins in their next two league games. They picked up a 40-34 win over Trabuco Hills on January 12 and a 49-28 victory against Mission Viejo at January 15. All of the Dolphins league games have been on the road.

A much needed home stand against San Juan Hills was set to take place on January 17. Results were not available at press time. The Stallions entered the game with a 1-2 record in league.

Freshman Maddy Bloom has been pacing the Dolphins all season and is averaging 11.7 points per game on 38 percent shooting from the field. Senior Katie Underwood is averaging 11.3 points per game pulling in a team high 5.6 rebounds per game.

Dolphins Girls Soccer Shuts Out South Coast League
The Dana Hills girls soccer team has a firm grasp on first place in the South Coast League standings with a perfect 3-0 record in league. All three Dolphins (8-0-3, 3-0) wins have been defensive shutouts and they have yet to concede a goal in the month of January. The team also remains unbeaten on the season.

A league match against Tesoro was set for January 17. Results were not available at press time. The Dolphins have yet to play Tesoro, who entered the match at the bottom of the league standings with an 0-3 record.

Sophomore goalie Megan Dickmann has played a big part in the Dolphins success this season and has recorded 20 saves. In a league match against Aliso Niguel on January 10, Dickmann tallied six saves in the Dolphins 1-0 win.

Girls Water Polo Prepares for Heart of League Schedule
With a win over Trabuco Hills on January 10 the Dolphins girls water polo team pulled to .500 on the season in league play, boasting a 1-1 South Coast League record.

The Dolphins loss in league came at the hands of rival San Clemente on January 8. The Dolphins were set to play against El Toro on the road on January 17. Results were not available at press time.
