With the general election right around the corner it is very important that the members of Dana Point’s City Council are committed to representing the people of Dana Point. The two candidates we should all be looking at to represent the people of Dana Point are Scott Schoeffel and Norm Denton. Both are outstanding choices to fill the two seats on the Council that are up for grabs this election.
Scott Schoeffel has been a Dana Point resident for 30 years and has given over 16 years of public service to this community. Currently a member of the Dana Point City Council, he is one dedicated individual. In 2011 he served as the Mayor of Dana Point and as Mayor Pro Tem in 2010. Schoeffel established the city’s first Arts and Culture Commission to make sure that music and the arts are given high priority in the community. Mr. Schoeffel is a major contributor to SOCSA at Dana Hills High School, to which he has donated all of the compensation he has earned as a City Council member since being elected in 2008 (over $28,000.00 to date), and plans to continue doing just that if re-elected. He is making it possible for programs like SOCSA to stay alive in these lean financial times and to award scholarships to deserving students. In addition to his SOCSA contributions, Mr. Schoeffel created and personally funds “Excellence is Elementary” scholarships for all three Dana Point elementary schools to recognize excellent achievement and citizenship by our youngest students. Mr. Schoeffel has also been deeply involved in the planning and development of the Dana Point Headlands area, which many residents of Dana Point are now enjoying after many years. He spends endless hours working to make Dana Point a safe, beautiful community and a place where we all enjoy living.
Norm Denton has been a Dana Point resident now for over 18 years. He is currently serving as Chairman of the Dana Point Planning Commission. He is involved in every major project in our city and works round the clock to plan and protect Dana Point. He is determined to bring his business knowledge, common sense, commitment and new ideas to protect and promote Dana Point. Aside from his generous support and time he gives to the city, he also provides to many nonprofit organizations such as the Dana Point Historical Society, Ocean Institute, Dana Point Library and many more. Mr. Denton also supports our schools and understands the importance of quality and safety in our beautiful city.
The election of Dana Point City Council members is crucial because they will be making decisions that will affect our lives daily and in the future. Dana Point is a vibrant city full of possibilities, great people, thriving businesses and wonderful schools. It is a city with strong finances, a balanced budget, deep reserves, no unfunded pension liability, and no debt. Let’s keep it that way! Reelect Scott Schoeffel and elect Norm Denton to serve us, the people of Dana Point.
